Harsha earned his Bachelor of Science from the University of Wisconsin and a medical degree from Harvard Medical School before his residency at USC Doheny Eye Institute. He joined the faculty as resident supervisor and Assistant Chief of Service in 2008. He has published in the fields of oculoplastics, cornea and uveitis. His academic interests also include resident education and international ophthalmology. Beginning 2009, he will pursue an ASOPRS-Sponsored Fellowship at the University of Washington in Seattle.
The main function of the Assistant Chief of Service is as resident supervisor. This person is a full-time faculty member, board certified/eligible and fellowship trained. The office of the Assistant Chief is primarily responsible for the daily administration of the entire residency program. This includes establishing teaching and lecture schedules, conferences, scheduling the various clinics, and surgery. As the prime focus of the residency training program, the Supervisor is the individual to whom all residents are immediately responsible. The Resident Supervisor assists on many cases in the operating room and personally operates on the difficult and complicated cases. The office of the ACS is staffed by various support personnel who can be contacted with questions on the daily affairs of the program.
