Cornea
The Cornea/External Disease/Anterior Segment Service focuses on
problems of the ocular surface, including infections of the conjunctiva
and cornea, corneal degenerations and other abnormalities of the ocular
surface and anterior segment. Corneal transplantation, anterior segment
reconstruction, cataract and intraocular lens surgery, refractive
corneal surgery and surgery for complicated cataract extraction are
performed by this service. Doheny Eye Centers offer IntraLase Technology for refractive surgery.
The Cornea/External Disease/Anterior Segment Service offers
comprehensive corneal evaluations, medical diagnostic services and
computerized topography, which can often be performed during a single
visit. Surgical services, as listed above, are coordinated closely with
the referring physician. Some of the available diagnostic services
include pachymetry, potential acuity measurement, microbiological
studies and assessment of corneal topography using computerized corneal
modeling technology.
Some of the more common patient diagnoses referred to this Doheny
service include bullous keratopathy, corneal ulcer, corneal scarring,
corneal astigmatism and cataracts.
