Uveitis & AIDS
The Intraocular Inflammation/Uveitis/AIDS Service deals with a broad range of inflammations and infections affecting the uveal tract, vitreous, retina and sclera. Consultative medical, diagnostic and surgical services are available.
Specialized investigations are conducted to evaluate the functional status of the immune system and to detect infectious causes or neoplastic processes. Retinal autoimmunity is evaluated by modern immunological investigations, and recently developed antiviral agents for ocular infections are being evaluated. Electron microscopic and immunohistochemical techniques often lead to diagnosis of rare diseases. Highly specialized services dealing with AIDS-related CMV retinitis are also available.
